Minuteman Missile National Historic Site

Minuteman Missile National Historic Site is one of the nation's newest national park areas. It was created to illustrate the history and significance of the Cold War, the arms race, and intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) development. The National Park Service is currently involved in the planning process to determine the future of this site.

The facilities represent the only remaining intact components of a nuclear missile field that consisted of 150 Minuteman II missiles, 15 launch control centers, and covered over 13,500 square miles of southwestern South Dakota.

Museum of the South Dakota State Historical Society

Premier museum on South Dakota history at the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center. The 15,000 sq. ft. gallery exhibit The South Dakota Experience covers the state from prehistory through the 20th century. Visitors can walk through a Sioux summer tipi, hear homesteader’s stories in a sod house, and design a 20th-century bungalow kitchen. They can listen to a creation story in Lakota, milk a model cow, and listen in on party line phone calls. Exhibit won an Award of Merit from the American Association for State and Local History in 2006.

Prairie Homestead

South Dakota Hall Of Fame

The South Dakota Hall of Fame is a non-profit, non-governmental organization recognizing South Dakotans who stand above the rest. Each year The South Dakota Hall of Fame hosts an induction ceremony during which up to 15 individuals may be inducted into one of the 15 Categories of Recognition. Anyone may submit a Nomination Form to The South Dakota Hall of Fame, with one primary qualification; the man or woman must have lived some portion of his or her life in the state of South Dakota.

South Dakota National Guard Museum

The Museum traces the beginnings of the South Dakota National Air and Army National Guard from the days of the Dakota Territory (1860's) to the present with an emphasis on various wars and conflicts, interpreting for citizens, veterans and young people the story of the South Dakota National Guard. Our goal is to create a better understanding, in the displays, of the significant role played by the South Dakota National Guard throughout history.
