Casey Tibbs South Dakota Rodeo Center

The Casey Tibbs South Dakota Rodeo Center is a historical museum devoted to South Dakota rodeo heritage. Memorabilia of the many world-class riders who have made South Dakota famous will be on exhibit, including the collections of superstars such as world champion Casey Tibbs and trick rider, Mattie Goff-Newcomb.

Displays and exhibits feature the history and collections of contributions made by South Dakota rodeo clowns, announcers, queens, and entertainment acts as well as stock contractors, early ranch life, and cowboys.

Exhibits feature orgnizations such as Little Britches, 4-H, Great Plains Indian Association, High School & Junior High Rodeo groups and the South Dakota Rodeo Association in the two story building overlooking the Missouri River

The facility contains a complete history of the area surrounding Midland, SD. Exhibits are on surrounding ranch and farming areas. We feature pioneer history--their wares and their lifestyle. We also feature railroad history. The museum is located in the original CNW Depot.

Minuteman Missile National Historic Site

Minuteman Missile National Historic Site is one of the nation's newest national park areas. It was created to illustrate the history and significance of the Cold War, the arms race, and intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) development. The National Park Service is currently involved in the planning process to determine the future of this site.

The facilities represent the only remaining intact components of a nuclear missile field that consisted of 150 Minuteman II missiles, 15 launch control centers, and covered over 13,500 square miles of southwestern South Dakota.

Museum of the South Dakota State Historical Society

Premier museum on South Dakota history at the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center. The 15,000 sq. ft. gallery exhibit The South Dakota Experience covers the state from prehistory through the 20th century. Visitors can walk through a Sioux summer tipi, hear homesteader’s stories in a sod house, and design a 20th-century bungalow kitchen. They can listen to a creation story in Lakota, milk a model cow, and listen in on party line phone calls. Exhibit won an Award of Merit from the American Association for State and Local History in 2006.

South Dakota National Guard Museum

The Museum traces the beginnings of the South Dakota National Air and Army National Guard from the days of the Dakota Territory (1860's) to the present with an emphasis on various wars and conflicts, interpreting for citizens, veterans and young people the story of the South Dakota National Guard. Our goal is to create a better understanding, in the displays, of the significant role played by the South Dakota National Guard throughout history.The museum provides a repository for memoriabelia and historic documents pertaining to the SD National Guard.
