Codington County Heritage Museum

The Codington County Heritage Museum is located in the former Carnegie Library building in uptown Watertown, South Dakota. Watertown is in the heart of the historic and scenic Coteau des Prairie and is the seat of Codington County. The museum’s collections include thousands of local history artifacts, 200 linear feet of archival material, and more than 3,500 photographs. The museum staff provides group tours, research assistance, programs, workshops, and slide presentations. The museum displays both permanent and temporary exhibits, including a turn of the century Victorian home, a country school, a dry goods and general store, a 1920’s dentist office, and a military display. The museum also hosts various programs, workshops, and traveling exhibits throughout the year.

Dacotah Prairie Museum

The Dacotah Prairie Museum of Aberdeen, South Dakota hosts a variety of both long and short-term exhibits relating to the Brown County area. The DPM also has two art galleries with approximately six shows in each annually, archive & photo collections, and programs available for learners of all ages.

Elkton Community Museum and Historical Society

Fort Sisseton State Park

Experience a unique niche in Dakota Territory history at Historic Fort Sisseton. Step back in time with interpreters and tour through the 14 original buildings and museum. Summer living history programs depict blacksmithing, bread baking, soldiering, and carpentry int the post-Civil War era. The june Festival captures both historians and western romantics and transports them to the peak of the Fort's existence. Visit for the day or stay for the weekend, a campground and camping cabins are available.

International Vinegar Museum

One-of-a-kind museum featuring the history, uses, and making of vinegar. See 100's of vinegars from around the world; explore a vinegar tasting bar. Gift shop has apparel, souvenirs, and of course, great vinegars!

J.W. Parmley Home & Historical Society
Ipswich, South Dakota 57451

The society maintains and operates two facilities. The historical house was the home of Mr. and Mrs. JW Parmley and it is restored and furnished with many of their original belongings. The Parmley House is a unique formed-concrete 1920s home built without wood framing. Exhibits include clothing, furniture and community-related items of the early 20th century.
The society also maintains and operates the restored Parmley Land Office on Main Street. The Parmley Land Office exhibits early 20th century businesses in a 1900 stone building. The society is constructing and developing the Edmunds County Memorial Park adjacent to the Land Office.

Mellette Memorial Association

We own and operate the Mellette House, home of Arthur Mellette, the first Governor of South Dakota. The home is beautifully restored with many of the family's original furnishings.

Experience life first hand in an elegant Italianate 1885 Dakota Territory home. Mellette House is renowned not only because of its spectacular architecture but because of the remarkable family that built it and occupied it for the first ten years of its existence.

Redfield’s Historic Chicago and Northwestern Depot

South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum

The State Agricultural Heritage Museum is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of objects related to South Dakota's agricultural history. The collections and exhibits depict technology, crops and livestock. In addition, the exhibits examine human experiences, institutions and cultures that were shaped by South Dakota's rural landscape and diverse environments.

South Dakota Art Museum

Since 1970, the South Dakota Art Museum has been a place for people from many different parts of the world to enjoy the artistic legacy of South Dakota. Permanent galleries, changing exhibitions, publications, lectures, workshops, and guided tours provide the link between artist and viewer. The museum features six spacious galleries, the museum store, and kid's sensation station.

Spink County Historical Scoiety

Early pioneer memorabilia; a varied inventory of service memoriabelia, carriages, and artifacts from the area. Displays include our collection of birds, butterflies, stuffed animals, rodents, and seashells; some native-American artifacts; early farm machinery and horse-drawn items; military items from most wars; collections of early newspapers and area pictures. Approximately 5000+ square feet on two levels with heat and A/C.
