Buffalo Historical Museum and One-Room Schoolhouse

Museum preserves local history from the cattle-ranch and homesteading eras in Harding County. The site features a one-room schoolhouse, built in 1914.

The Museum itself is housed in the old First State Bank Building, contructed in 1913. The Bank moved to newer quarters in 1967 and donated the old site so that the Museum could be launched. Since 1997, we have added two additions and now boast over 3000 square feet.

Cresbard, Devoe, Myron Historical Association

Dakota Sunset Museum
Gettysburg, South Dakota 57442

The Dakota Sunset Museum features the 40-ton Sacred Sioux Medicine Rock, which was originally located 15 miles west of Gettysburg near the Missouri River. Imbedded with human footprints and handprints, this rock is considered sacred to the Lakota people.
Also featured are area history artifacts & memorabilia, displays of pioneer barbershop, law office, kitchen, parlor, bedroom, music room and a sewing display. Also a big game animal collection, blacksmith shop, country schoolhouse, carriage barn. We have an extensive photo collection and geanological collection of over 10,000 obituaries.
In 1995, Lakota artist Del Iron Cloud painted murals at the museum above the Medicine Rock, and around the Frankhauser big game animal collection which includes the North American wild sheep.
On loan until 2011 from the National Military Park, Gettysburg, PA: a Blakely Rifle Civil War Cannon. The rifle portion of the cannon was cast in Liverpool, England in 1861. The carriage is a reproduction that conforms to 1863 Confederate specifications.

Major James McLaughlin Heritage Center

A general museum with emphasis on local history, agriculture, Native Americans, Mahto Post Office, country school display. We house many newspaper and magazine articles about Corson County and its people. There is a special James McLaughlin family display and historical documents.

Pollock Visitors / Interpretive Center

Our building was opened on July 24, 1904. It is a 30 x 80 foot log-fronted structure. We have on display indian artifacts, historical tools and locally handmade clocks. We feature of the moving town of Pollock. In addition we have Lewis and Clark information.

Exhibits are changed monthly; the changing exhibits include handmade doilies, dolls (some as old as 90 years), handmade quilts, jewelry, afghans and music boxes.
