Museum Theatre production "Ruby, the Queen of Hearts"

The Journey Museum theatre program will present its third production of the season on Feb 10-12. “Ruby, the Queen of Hearts” is a comedy about a fifth grade card game whiz, Ruby Cheever, who hopes to be voted queen of her 5th grade Valentine’s Day party, in the face of stiff competition from her arch enemy, Coco DeVayne. The play features a cast of 21 Rapid City students, in grades 2 through 7. “Ruby, the Queen of Hearts” coordinates with the exhibit in the Adelstein Gallery, called “Fun and Games.” The Adelstein Gallery will be before and after play performances, so that theatre audiences may visit the exhibit. Performances are Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 plus tax for adults and $3 plus tax for students 17 and under and museum members. Reservations are encouraged; call 394-6923 or come to the museum. Tickets will also be available at the door. The play’s running time is approximately 50 minutes and is for family audiences.

SciGirls of the Black Hills: Science Cooks

SciGirls of the Black Hills, a science and engineering club for girls in grades 5 through 8, will hold a meeting at the Journey Museum at 222 New York Street in Rapid City on Monday, February 13 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Girls will see the film, “Science Cooks,” and will learn how the fat, sodium and caloric contents of food are calculated. SciGirls videos are produced for PBX by tpt National Productions and are made possible by the National Science Foundation with additional support by ExxonMobil. SciGirls clubs use the videos as a starting point for a series of science and engineering-related activities and projects. SciGirls of the Black Hills is jointly operated by the Journey Museum, Starbase –a Department of Defense Youth Program – and Sanford Underground Laboratory. Cost for attending SciGirls Club will be $3 per student per meeting. Pre-registration is required. The club meeting in Rapid City will be limited to 20 girls. Amazing Science: Building Intelligent Machines

The Journey Museum’s Amazing Science presentation for Wednesday, February 15 from 7 to 8 p.m. is about building intelligent machines. The presentation will be provided by Dr. Jeff McGough, Robotics Coordinator in the Department of Computer Science at SDSMandT. The presentation is geared for those ages 10 and up. Admission for Amazing Science is $5 plus tax for adults; $3 plus tax for students and adult museum members. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Family Game Night

The Journey Museum will hold the first of three scheduled Family Game Nights on Saturday, February 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There is no charge for admission. Family Game Nights are being held in the Adelstein Gallery exhibit, “Fun and Games,” which offers an arcade game, several video games and a number of tables with board and card games of all kinds, including those for children. People are encouraged to attend to spend time enjoying the exhibit and the company of family and friends. A refreshment table will be set up in the lobby. Popcorn, cider and kids’ drinks for 25 cents each will be on sale, to benefit the museum’s education and programming. Family Game Nights will also be held on March 17 and April 14. Family Fun Day: Penguins on Parade

The Journey Museum’s Family Fun Day on Sunday, February 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. will be “Penguins on Parade.” The video “Penguins in the Wild,” will be shown and participants will be able to make several penguin- related crafts. There will also be a drawing for the children’s book, “365 Penguins,” and a free take-home packet of info about penguins for each child. Refreshments will be on sale in the lobby. Admission to the Family Fun Day is $3 per person, plus tax or $1 per person, plus tax, with a Family Membership and this provides admission to the museum and the Children’s Library Lab, as well. History for Lunch: The Artist, Grace French

The Journey Museum’s “History for Lunch” on Tuesday, February 28 from noon to 1 p.m. will be a presentation about Rapid City’s first artist, Grace French. The presenter will be Donna Fisher, who served as curator of a 2007 Journey Museum exhibit on Grace French. Those who attend are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch to enjoy while they listen to the speaker. Presentations will last for approximately 35 minutes, after which there will be an informal question and answer period. Cost for attending History for Lunch is $3 plus tax per person, but is free for those with a museum membership.
